Experienced Software Engineer (AI)

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you'll design, build and maintain robust software solutions that support our clients' business challenges. Increasingly, businesses want to integrate AI & agentic workflows into their processes, which at its core means designing and building solid software applications. You'll play a key role in shaping how we work, bringing best practices into our projects and helping raise the bar for quality across the team. Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain software applications and solutions that meet client requirements
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following industry best practices
• Introduce and embed best practices in our way of working, including coding standards, code reviews, testing strategies and development processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, architects and business/IT stakeholders
• Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset by identifying opportunities for improvement, taking ownership of initiatives and proactively proposing solutions that add value for clients and the team
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical decision-making
• Integrate AI capabilities and agentic workflows into software applications, translating clients' AI ambitions into practical, well-engineered solutions
• Work directly with clients to understand requirements and provide technical guidance
• Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions (e.g. how we can become more efficient in developing code & building applications)
• Be an on- and offline ambassador for the element61 team

• You are already residing in Belgium
• University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related technical field
• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, with a strong track record of delivering production-grade solutions
• Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, TypeScript)
• Solid understanding of software architecture (backend & frontend), design patterns and clean code principles
• Skills and experience to introduce and imbed best practices in our way of working and the ability to bring structure and consistency to development processes
• Experience with AI integrated in software development (e.g., AI-assisted coding tools, integrating AI/LLM capabilities into applications)
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and modern data platforms is a plus
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) is a plus
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
• Customer-focused mindset with a drive to deliver high-quality solutions
• Enthusiastic about being part of a growing team & industry
• Fluency in English, Dutch, or French is a plus
